Creating a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment requires more than a checklist and a cleaning schedule. It takes the right people, the right training, consistent performance management, and measurable standards that ensure expectations are met every day.
At Interstate, our service approach is built around three key factors: Recruiting Excellence Coupled with Continuous Improvement, Training and Performance Management, and Essential Cleanliness Metrics. Together, these elements create a comprehensive approach that supports consistent service delivery, improves operational performance, and helps create healthier environments for everyone who enters a facility.
Recruiting Excellence Coupled with Continuous Improvement - Exceptional service begins with exceptional people.
Our approach to recruiting focuses on finding individuals who have the right skills, work ethic, and commitment to delivering quality service. But recruiting is only the beginning. Building a high-performing team requires ongoing engagement, support, development, and opportunities for growth. We believe employees perform at their best when they feel valued and understand the importance of their role. That’s why our Cleaner to Leader philosophy focuses on recognizing the potential within our frontline workforce and creating pathways for employees to grow into greater roles and responsibilities. By investing in our people and providing opportunities for advancement, we help build stronger teams while developing future leaders from within. We also believe that every operation can be improved. Our teams continuously evaluate processes, identify opportunities, and look for ways to make service more efficient and effective. By listening to employees, engaging with clients, and reviewing operational performance, we can identify opportunities for improvement before small issues become larger challenges.
Training and Performance Management - A well-trained team is essential to delivering consistent results.
Our training approach helps employees understand not only what needs to be cleaned, but how it should be cleaned and why the work matters. Through Interstate University, our employees have access to structured training and ongoing learning opportunities designed to build knowledge, reinforce best practices, and support professional development.
Employees receive training on cleaning procedures, equipment, chemicals, safety, and client-specific expectations. Training doesn’t stop after onboarding. Ongoing education, refresher training, coaching, and hands-on development help reinforce expectations and keep employees aligned with evolving facility needs. Performance management is equally important. Our supervisors and managers provide ongoing oversight, coaching, and feedback to help employees succeed. When performance meets expectations, we recognize it. When opportunities for improvement are identified, we address them quickly with targeted coaching and corrective action.
This combination of training and performance management creates accountability at every level of the organization. Employees know what is expected of them, supervisors have the tools to support their teams, and clients have greater confidence that service standards are being consistently maintained.
Essential Cleanliness Metrics - What gets measured gets managed.
Effective cleaning programs require more than simply completing tasks. They require measurable standards that allow teams to evaluate performance, identify trends, and continuously improve.
Our approach uses cleanliness metrics and quality inspections to provide visibility into how well a facility is being maintained. These measures can include inspection results, quality scores, recurring deficiencies, response times, task completion, and other key performance indicators aligned with the client’s specific requirements.
Digital tools and reporting systems provide greater visibility into performance and allow leadership teams to quickly identify areas that need attention. When an issue is identified, the goal is not simply to correct it once. We look for the root cause, determine what can be improved, and track corrective actions to help prevent the issue from recurring.
These metrics also create a shared understanding between our teams and our clients. Instead of relying on assumptions, we can use real data to evaluate performance, communicate results, and make informed decisions.
A Service Approach Built for Continuous Improvement
Cleaner, safer, and healthier environments don’t happen by accident. They are the result of a service approach that brings together talented people, ongoing development, strong accountability, and measurable performance.By focusing on recruiting excellence, continuous improvement, training, performance management, and essential cleanliness metrics, we create a system designed to deliver consistent results while continuously looking for ways to improve.
